2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée
APR 12 Cloudy brick appearance. Fresher and more youthful than the last two bottles, feeling more like it was at release, but the colour is very different. Even some of the typical herbs of the vintage, but they're only evident for the first ten minutes. Redcurrants, unripe raspberries, coffee and morellos. Extreme acidity, almost on the harsh side, the teeth start to itch. The acidity carries the redcurrants far out in the aftertaste, visiting a place of minerality, almost salty. Strange colour for such a young wine, almost like 58 Gaja Barolo, but finally a bottle that didn't seem cooked. Yet again, a worrying cork, seems to have been more or less soaked. This is very typical of Domaine Leroy from my experience. 92

2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée
APR 11 Cloudy brick colour. It has never been that clear, but the nose have been fresh and vibrant, with huge amounts of fruit, now (I tasted it starting already last year) and with this bottle, a surprising decay has started very early. Almost a nature wine now, with some strange fruit in the back, and an unbalanced acidity in front. I'm not even rating it.

2004 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée
DEC 10 Cloudy ruby. Slightly cooked berries nose, touch of nettles, figs and leather. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity but lacks freshness and vibrancy, not fully together, far from last bottle. 87

MAY 13 Soaked cork which seems to be an issue with both domaine and negoc Leroy bottles from my experience. Towards golden, nuts, butter, minerals, ripe lemons, touch of bacon fat, ever so slightly smoky, complex and layered. Fresh acidity, refreshing and playful with nutmeg, touch of coffee and pralines. Almost like an old Champagne on aromas. Lemons and an intense yet refined minerality, almost smoky towards the finish. Massive length. 1969 Maison Leroy Montrachet
NOV 09 Directly from Maison Leroy’s cellar. Golden, hints of amber. Minerals, tender of seashells, some yellow and green fruits beneath, layered, complex, tender, transparent, just amazing combination. Slight oxidation, but just a hint, really does only make it even more complex, acidity has to work a bit with the slightly fat body, nothing near as much butter and nuts as one would expect, but they are there in the background, very tender and elegant finish, last for minutes. Very impressive that you never feel that the wine is big or intense, still it has this layered and exceptional complexity and length, that just clears every other flavours in the mouth. Amazing wine. 98
