FEB 13 Pale lemon yellow. Slightly off first, but yellow Apples and minerals with air. Fresh acidity, creamy texture, sulphur touch, good length. 85

1996 Robert Ampeau Volnay 1er Cru Santenots

AUG 15 Lighter ruby, garnet rim. Earthy, some wood polish, figs, light leather note, some oxidized strawberries, somewhat subdued nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lacks some fruit and seems a bit edgy and herbal mid palate and in the finish, a slight unclean note about it, good length. I haven't tasted Ampeau's wines in a while now but remember this slightly off aroma as somewhat typical from this producer, is it brett? It nearly blows off after two hours but never completely. 88

FEB 13 Pale ruby. Some autumn leaf, wet soil and raspberries. Fresh acidity, tannins soon gone, slightly lean, good length. 87

JUN 15 Golden. Some yellow fruits, honey, smoky minerals and candied lemons nose, verging on too oxidized, because it is oxidative. Freshish acidity, heavy yellow fruits, smoky minerals and a faint lemons note palate. 88

MAR 14 Served blind. Towards golden. Waxy, oxidized apples, nuts, premoxed, flat in the mouth.

MAY 12 (Served blind) Bright ruby, brick rim. Leafy, dusty, licorice. Fresh acidity, sweet plums, easy going, lacks finesse. With answer in hand, one of the better of several cases of this one. Huge bottle variation. 85

JAN 10 Ruby with brick rim, very earthy, some strawberries, but a bit dusty. A bit acidic, and later on heavy and slow. Think that old, single, never married uncle coming, the one who thinks he is vital and funny, but smells instead, and gets easily drunk, so you have to drive him back home, or torture a poor taxi driver with him. 84

NOV 12 Ruby, orange rim. Figs and leafy nose, lots of earth and almost volatile. Dry and tired palate.
