2014 Daniel Rion Echezeaux

MAR 16 Bright ruby. Scented, vanilla, spices and red fruits nose, tight. This seems to be the tightest Echezeaux out there in most vintages. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity but surrounded with wood, which also seems typical even if the wood seems to be less hefty than it used to be from this address. Quite brilliant behind it all, this will be gorgeous if it handles the wood, and I’m surprised by how much wood this Echezeaux has swallowed before. The 06 vintages in particular. 91-94

Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh and fruity, bit structured, oak is more integrated than in the former bottles, starting to come together nicely. Still a little bit rustic. 92

JAN 10 Ruby with pink rim. Very elegant, fresh strawberries, hints of leather, some oak, but this pure strawberry just shines through. High acidity, very fresh, some barrel tannins, good fruit, pure youth, fruity intensity, needs many years. 90

2005 Daniel Rion Nuits-St-Georges Vielles Vignes
AUG 12 Bright ruby. If you can think of a mix of strawberries and blackberries, that's how this smells now. There is a slight whiff of vanilla as well, but on release, for me at least, this was like sucking on oak. I'm a bit amazed actually, of how well the oak has integrated. Just a whiff of floral notes if you look carefully. Fresh acidity, tannins ripe, elegant body and fruit, not too intense first, more intensity in the aftertaste, long and dark for pinot. Anyway, lovely. 90

MAR 14 Ruby. Scented, red berries, figs, elegant nose, nuanced and detailed. Freshish acidity, ripe tannins, soft texture, figs and plums, fruity, more tannic finish, bit grippy, long. 91

APR 12 Pale ruby, brick rim, cloudy. Strawberries, rose hips, slightly earthy. Fresh acidity, lively, drying of and loosing fruit quickly, just a few minutes. 85 at best.
