MAY 13 Pale bright ruby. A bit tight first but opens up fairly quickly. Getting more floral and scented first, then more fragrant and red berries arrive. Fresh and lively acidity, ripe tannins, slightly rough texture at the moment even if it turns rounder and more velvety with air. Remains slightly edgy even after four hours, now the oak shows a little more and that is probably the culprit. Give it a few years in the cellar even if gorgeous already. 94

MAR 11 Bright ruby, this time pure strawberries, layers of it somehow, very elegant, very pure, essence of Pinot, very long finish. 93

MAR 11 Bright ruby, more floral and raspberry, quite different from the Charmes, fresh acidity, again very pure, superb elegance, one could smell this wine for days, gorgeous nose, fantastic aftertaste. 94

JAN 13 Bright ruby. Scented, layered nose, redcurrants, raspberries and slightly unripe wild strawberries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, a bit lean body, refreshing but a bit green and somewhat unripe. This from Riedel Vinum Burgundy. In Riedel Sommelier Burgundy it's extremely scented, almost like Christmas tea, cinnamon, rounder yes, but lacks the nuances, and still has that slightly green touch. In Riedel Vinum Riesling it's less scented, more on somewhat unripe red berries and tighter palate. It was as long from all glasses, but fuller from the two first ones mentioned. 94

After an hour+ in decanter the redcurrants and acidity broadens into raspberries and floral scent. Same happens on the palate, lean and acidic first, later rounder, always focused and fresh. APR 12 Bright ruby, towards watery rim. What a boring wine! No, I don't mean boring, do I? The nose is closed, the nose is very closed, the palate as well. Closed. Out of business. Redcurrant lemonade at best. What a waste... After 3 hours, something started to happen. Well, the nose still boring to be honest. Redcurrant's mixed with some cassis, and a really tiny bit of leather....tiny bit. But the palate! Lean and angle at this stage, not that intense either. Some floral notes, strawberries, needed four hours, even pepper, spices, violets, like a very elegant Lafite, but much more tender, transparent and secretive. So refreshing, that kick of flavours that I love in Rousseau's, that subdued yet intense feel on the palate, that aftertaste for minutes, that.... I don't know. I just know that I love it. It's long! 95

Not as structured as one might expect from this vineyard. 96

MAR 12 Ruby. Stunning nose, this is beyond proper description. Superb, layered, refined. Fresh acidity, after that nose the palate feels a bit simple, until the aftertaste that is. Waves upon waves, incredible length, this one knocking the other wines thus far this evening, off the table. 97

MAR 12 Pale ruby. A bit all over the place first, but quickly sharpening up with air, floral, strawberries, perfumed, stunning nose. Fresh acidity, tannins almost gone, slightly rustic texture anyway, well, rustic for Rousseau, how rustic can it actually be. 94

MAR 12 Pale ruby, some barrel notes show through the fruit, edgy nose, some rose hips. Medium acidity, again somewhat rough, at least for Rousseau, not quite the degree of excellence one expects from this producer. 89

AUG 12 Pale ruby with garnet rim. Still youthful nose, strawberries, basil, leaf notes, some flowers, touch of vanilla, refined, easy, yet intense feel. Slightly spicy. Fresh and elegant acidity, ripe tannins, gorgeous balance and layered, feels like perfection, exceptional length. 97

1998 Armand Rousseau Chambertin
JAN 10 Bright ruby with thin garnet rim. Youthful, very elegant, some white pepper, herbs, floral hints, strawberries, leather, some chocolate, hints of vanilla, very refined, quite intense. Fresh and fruity, extremely well balanced, complex but you need to look for the flavours, ripe tannins, elegant acidity, perfection, extremely long finish. 99

1997 Armand Rousseau Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos de la Ruchottes
JUN 16 Bright ruby, thin brick rim. Red berries, floral, seductive, light leather and tobacco touch, mint notes nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, ripe, elegant, some sweet and sour notes, maturing nicely, long. 94

1997 Armand Rousseau Clos de la Roche 
NOV 18 Bright ruby, brick rim. Scented, lighter nose, discreet almost, transparent and detailed, light floral notes, some spices, bright red fruits, not too intense but everything in here is delightful. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, red berries, raspberries, again somewhat narrow but lovely freshness, sublime balance, and bright fruits, long. Tender, served blind, brilliant stuff, easily overlooked in the glass. Weightless concentration. This one is just far too polite. 95

1996 Armand Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
MAR 12 Ruby, thin brick rim. Perfumed, open, superb nose but has something rustic to it, and maybe some oak just behind the fruit. Fresh acidity, feels leaner than the 99, a bit all over the place, lacking focus (in this context that is) but balanced, long. 93

1993 Armand Rousseau Clos de la Roche
NOV 16 Bright ruby, garnet rim. That openness that always hits me with Clos de la Roche and especially from Armand Rousseau, it all just feels so incredibly clear and bright. It is like stepping into an autumn morning and all elements of the wine hangs on the branches of a leafless tree, like winter apples. Bright raspberries, some dates, raisins, spices, almost a cinnamon note, wild strawberries, sous bois that seems to blow off with air. Superb nose, not quite as impressive on the palate, but a very lovely wine indeed. Giving it one point extra for that superb nose. 95

1989 Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques
AUG 18 Pale red ruby, brick rim. Red berries, anise, some spices, herbs, leaner nose With air it brightens up nicely. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, anise, red berries, some spices, juicy, long. 95

1983 Armand Rousseau Chambertin 
AUG 15 Bright ruby core with brick rim. Spices, liquorice, sous bois, dates, bright red fruits still. Surprisingly youthful for its age, served blind I was in Gevrey but ten years younger. Fresh acidity, still some tannins, red fruits, again surprisingly firm for its age, long and nuanced, yet tight somehow. Long. 94
